1. It's way more hygienic. The thought of using abrasive dry toilet paper again after having used a bidet for years now is unnerving. It baffles me that many Americans still don't know what a bidet is. While supposedly representing one of the most modernized societies in the world, we still opt to smear our posteriors with paper instead of cleaning it up with water. The negative consequences of using paper to clean up after ourselves are numerous:
- You will never get rid of the fecal matter completely until after you shower or bathe.
- The hand that serves the duty will get contaminated even if you can't see it.
- Even after washing your hands with soap and water, guess what? Fecal matter will get on your underwear. If the color of your underwear is white, you want to keep it that way.
2. If you're a menstruating female, you know how bad it gets when it's that time of the month. Sometimes a warm soothing jet of water feels much better than wiping and replacing your tampons. Need I go into more details? I think not.
3. Sexually active people can greatly benefit from a bidet. While it's fun, and pleasurable to make wild and crazy love, you need to clean up after your 5 minutes of glory. Don't just roll around in bed drenched in sweat and other bodily fluids, and clean up a bit! What you really need is a shower, but a bidet is an excellent alternative that allows an easy way to quickly clean yourself up with water.
4. Hemorrhoids is more common than you think. Whether you admit it or not, you still have to buy Preparation H at the drugstore next week. Let the bidet do its magic and relieve your discomfort, and pain. A warm water bidet is highly recommended for people with hemorrhoids.
5. Maybe you're disabled and don't like getting help from attendants all the time just to clean up after yourself. The use of a bidet allows you to maintain good personal hygiene with minimal assistance, and reduces unnecessary embarrassment.

I just bought a bidet from amazon. Bidets are becoming more popular in America as well.
Bidets are starting to get popular now. We just bought an inteliseat bidet which installs right on a toilet instead of the toilet seat. it has a setting for his AND hers as well as front and back. I can controll the water flow and tempurature and it even has a blowdryer to gently dry your posterior. Sold at COSTCO it was about $200.
I hae to say that is the BEST $200 we ever spent! I am now in the process of replacing ALL toilet seats in my house to an inteleseat Bidet. much chaper than baby wipes and much more comfortable than the “watering can”
spread the word NOT the germs !
The bidet is great and there are so many benefits to it. I dont understand why people in the US don’t use it.
Thanks for the information.
Jacqueline: I believe the bidet idea came from the Islamic World. At one time Islamic Spain was a “light” in Europe in terms of science, technology, medicine, hygiene.
In our religion Muslims wash every time when visiting the toilet – both for urination and excretion. We have to be extra particular about keeping the body and clothes free from impurities (urine, stool) otherwise the 5 daily prayers would be invalid.
To assist in this, men always urinate sitting down so that urine is not (accidentally) splashed on the seat, floor, clothes and body.
As people have said, tissue is not really enough, a combination of tissue and water is the best method. In Muslim nations – hand-held bidets or watering cans are common.
No clue why bidets are not yet mainstream in the US despite it being an ancient invention. Why do we continue to accept filthiness whilst labeling ourselves modern humans? It is difficult to buy a bidet here. Some retailers have never heard the term before! Can you actually believe that!?
My thoughts exactly. Sad that Americans still don’t use a bidet… can’t believe I didn’t grow up using one. I have one installed in every bathroom in my house.
I agree that bidets are more effective at cleaning up after you “go”. Since I met my husband, who is from Egypt, I have had a bidet in my home and cannot imagine how I ever lived without it! I used to use baby wipes as an alternative to toilet paper, but a bidet it easier and cheaper. Every bathroom in every home in the world should have one.
To cleaner butts everywhere!
